The 2025 Royal Rumble PLE will emanate from the Lucas Oil Stadium on February 1. It’s shaping up to become one of the most anticipated shows in recent memory, given that John Cena has announced his participation in the 30-man Royal Rumble match. The Cenation Leader kicked off his farewell tour on the Netflix premiere of Raw.

As per Joe of WrestleVotes via Backstage Q/A pass, the Peacemaker star is “probably choice 1 or 1A” to win the Rumble. His promo on Raw took the fans on a rollercoaster of emotions. He noted how everyone’s expecting him to win that elusive world title for the 17th time in his career. However, speaking from his heart, the 47-year-old said it’s never going to happen.

When the fans didn’t like it, John rephrased to claim that it’ll take a miracle. The Franchise Player even joked about having a better shot at bagging an Oscar than becoming a 17-time WWE Champion. But the moment he mentioned the possibility of outlasting 29 other men in the Rumble, the WWE Universe popped big.

It’s clear as daylight what they want to see. Even though Cena hasn’t won a singles match since 2018, he can certainly get his confidence back if he ends up equaling “Stone Cold” Steve Austin‘s record of most Royal Rumble match wins at 3.

John has done it twice already, in 2008 and 2013. The Ricky Stanicky star, though, will face cutthroat competition as the likes of CM Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight have also declared for the Rumble. As WWE gets closer to that weekend, the fans would probably see half of the field confirmed by then.

Fans explain why John Cena shouldn’t win the Royal Rumble match despite his last year as active wrestler

It seems like the report establishing John Cena as a frontrunner to win the Royal Rumble match doesn’t excite the netizens as much as it did the live crowd on Raw this week. The following reactions on X underscore why The Prototype isn’t perfectly suited for the big moment in Indianapolis.

Although there are still some who want Cena to be rewarded for everything he’s done for WWE, the majority is against that notion. They believe that someone who’s retiring soon shouldn’t be favored over those currently in their primes.

Many bet on the possibility of Cena making it to the last 4 in the Rumble but not getting it done. A fan mentioned that Logan Paul could very well rain on John’s parade by eliminating him. For the unversed, WWE has discussed booking Cena vs. Paul at some point in 2025.
