“Shameful”- Fans ridicule Emma Raducanu as she claims to be unaware of general elections in her country

Emma Raducanu attracted unwarranted criticism after claiming that she was unaware of the general elections in her country. When asked if she would go out to vote before her practice session on election day, the 21-year-old’s answer left fans unhappy.
Raducanu stated that she would not go out to vote and would instead have a “lie-in” before her practice session at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. She went on to claim that she did not even know about there being elections on that day.
No (smiling). I think I will have a lie-in, then I’ll come to practice. I didn’t even know that it was tomorrow, to be honest. Thanks for letting me know (smiling).

This response was shared online by a journalist who criticized Raducanu for her ignorance and wished the Brit had instead used the occasion to spread the word about the elections.

Meanwhile, a section of fans defended Raducanu, stating that she was not obligated to talk politics. They even claimed that it was a sarcastic response from her as she wanted to avoid any follow-up questions on the issue.
