The 2024 Home Run Derby night did not go as planned. Grammy-nominated singer Ingrid Andress botched her national anthem performance and received heavy criticism on social media. Her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner”, unfortunately failed to wow the audience.
The higher notes with her shrill voice were described as one of the worst national anthems ever, while many recalled the past couple of artists’ such performances. The incident took place at Globe Life Field on Monday.
Andress, a 32-year-old songwriter and singer, was not only nominated for a Grammy but also featured on the Billboard Hot 100. People did not expect such a performance from her at HR Derby. SI writer Alec Carr took to social media noting,
I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.Alec Carr on X.

Many present at Globe Life Field on Monday night recalled past botched performances of singers like Roseanne Barr, Carl Lewis, and Fergie. Alec Bohm’s smile could also be a call back to the 2018 NBA All-Star Game where pop singer Fergie’s performance had several NBA players suppressing their laughter.
Regardless, the audience clapped back to Ingrid Andress after the performance although a couple of boos could also be heard. Some even posted Donald Trump’s bleeding ear, as they noted, “Me rn”, while another X user penned, “@MLB owes the American people an apology for this one.”
