“Thank God we didn’t get this”- Vince McMahon’s rejected pitch for Ronda Rousey’s WWE return in 2022 leaves fans up in arms
Vince McMahon had something totally out-of-the-box in mind to accentuate the WWE return of Ronda Rousey a few years ago.

Former UFC ace Ronda Rousey had a couple of stints with WWE. After dropping her women’s title at WrestleMania 35, she went on a prolonged hiatus from the company. That’d eventually result in a maternity leave as the 38-year-old gave birth to her first daughter in September 2021. Four months removed, she returned to WWE.
Rousey won the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match by last eliminating Charlotte Flair. That wasn’t received well among the fans. But it could’ve been worse if one of Vince McMahon‘s pitches for her had come to fruition. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the former WWE CEO reportedly wanted to have Ronda run through 29 other women and clean up the entire field, all by herself.
Obviously that didn’t end up being the case. What if it did? A meltdown from the WWE Universe was inevitable. The Baddest Woman on the Planet then went on to challenge Flair for the then-SmackDown women’s title at WrestleMania 38. Rousey was handed her first singles match defeat in WWE by The Queen.
The fans had already started turning their backs on Ronda as more time passed. Her constant character detours didn’t help the cause either. Eventually, at SummerSlam 2024, the ex-Judoka lost to Shayna Baszler in an MMA rules match, which would end up being Rousey’s last WWE match.
After exiting the company, the former UFC Bantamweight Champion slammed WWE’s top brass, including Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and Bruce Prichard, for fostering a casting couch culture within the company. Rousey, who was initially close to McMahon, cut ties with him once a number of lawsuits alleging Vince of sexual misconduct kept piling up on him.
Fans lambast Vince McMahon for his offbeat Ronda Rousey pitch
As evident by the following fan reactions on X, Vince McMahon‘s bizarre pitch for Ronda Rousey has the folks in splits. Most of them believe Rousey was already a substandard choice to win the Royal Rumble match on the night she returned to WWE.

If the former Olympic medalist had eliminated the entire field, it would’ve sabotaged every single woman in there. One fan claimed that even if McMahon were to go ahead, he should’ve done a “Roman Reigns–One vs. All” type of thing.
That would’ve seen Charlotte Flair entering at #1 and defending her women’s championship with Rousey ultimately tossing her out. One even expressed gratitude for Triple H replacing his father-in-law as the creative lead of WWE, given that McMahon was holding out these kinds of ideas for the on-screen product.
