Francis Ngannou is finally close to making his PFL debut a year after signing for the promotion. The ‘Predator’ will take on PFL heavyweight champion Renan Ferreira in Saudi Arabia. Ahead of the fight, both fighters had their first-ever press conference where they faced off. However, things took an ugly turn during the conference, which no one had expected.

It has been a tough year for Francis Ngannou with his boxing loss against Anthony Joshua. However, his biggest loss was when he lost his 15-month-old son. Nevertheless, Ngannou and Ferreira participated in some subtle trash-talking during the press conference. Renan Ferreira, via his translator, mentioned something that might come off as extremely disrespectful.

He has been going through a tough year in his life, but the toughest challenge in his life and in his year is gonna be me. I’m gonna be the biggest problem of his year.

As expected, it didn’t go well with fans who called out the Brazilian for being highly disrespectful towards Ngannou. UFC fighters Renato Moicano and Gilbert Burns came in support of Ferreira and mentioned that the translation was wrong. However, upon watching it again, Burns mentioned that the translation was correct.

Ngannou had publicly talked about how much he suffered after losing his son. According to the Cameroonian-French fighter, he was on the verge of retirement but chose to continue fighting for his son. Ngannou is a fan favorite, and given the sentiments behind the incident, the outrage was evident.

Renan Ferreira later mentioned that he didn’t mean any disrespect towards Francis Ngannou‘s son. According to the Brazilian fighter, his comments were strictly professional, and he would never say such things. However, the damage was done, and many fans mocked the PFL fighter for his immediate comments.

The fans are extremely angry at Ferreira for his comments. Many unanimously agreed that the fighter had no business bringing Ngannou’s dead son into the equation. Many mentioned how mad this would have made Ngannou, who would probably destroy the Brazilian in the fight.

In the aftermath, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reached out to Ferreira for comments. The Brazilian told Okamoto that his comments didn’t refer to Ngannou’s son. Instead, it was meant to say that he was a bigger problem than Anthony Joshua, who knocked out the ‘Predator’ this year. Nevertheless, things have taken a turn for the worse.
