Brazil have only won two competitive games ever since the start of the Copa America in July. The Selecao find themselves going through a rough patch as they failed to produce a result yet again. After a narrow win against Ecuador a few days back, Brazil were beaten by a solitary goal by a resolute Paraguay side. This marked the first defeat for Brazil since 2008 against La Albirroja.
Brazil succumbed to a 20th-minute goal by Diego Gomez, who scored his first goal for Paraguay. The goal itself was worthy of winning any game, as the 21-year-old found the net from outside the box with an exquisite finish with the outside of his boot. Despite fielding the likes of Endrick, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. up front, the Selecao were unable to muster a response in the 70 minutes that followed.
Several fans stated that Brazil hasn’t been this bad in ages and that they should sack Dorival Junior immediately. Many laughed at how the manager’s claims of reaching the World Cup final were quickly put to bed by the embarrassing result.
As things stand, Brazil are currently fifth with ten points in the CONMEBOL qualification standings.

Brazil have failed to live up to their billing in recent months. From the early exit at the Copa America to the lack of goals scored by star players, the Selecao have a lot of issues to fix. Manager Dorival Junior boldly stated that his men would be in the final of the 2026 World Cup, only for them to lose to a side they haven’t tasted defeat against in more than a decade.
A fan commented that Ronaldinho was right when he said that he’ll no longer watch Brazil games. Another added that this is the worst Brazil side he’s seen in his lifetime. A lot of the criticism was aimed at Ballon d’Or favorite Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid teammate Endrick. The former made headlines after Lamine Yamal overtook the 24-year-old in terms of goal contributions for the country.
Even though Brazil failed to emulate their former selves in official competition, it is unclear why the team struggled so much. Paraguay can pride themselves in pulling off an unbelievable result, although the onus is on the men in yellow to get out of this slump. Argentina also suffered their first defeat in over 13 games in a re-match of the Copa America final.
