The 2024 French Open for the women’s side concluded with a bang as Iga Swiatek was crowned the champion for the fourth time in her career. After dominating her way through the tournament, the finals was just another match for her.
The WTA No.1 was up against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the finals and had continued her saga of straight-set victory. It is rare to see straight-set wins in a final but Swiatek has always done it and was once again on top of her opponent from the get-go.
She was 6-2 up in the match and went all-out in the second set to take a 5-0 lead. However, after Paolini held the set, Swiatek closed out the match 6-2, 6-1 to win her fourth French Open title. While it was a delightful moment for the Pole, many tennis fans were quite disappointed with the match.
They felt that there was no competition in the match, which was in fact very one-sided. All predictions were towards Swiatek, who did win the tournament. “Congrats to Iga but this was one of the worst finals I’ve seen. Where is the competition?,” commented an X user.
Congrats to Iga but where's the competition?? This match barely lasted an hour. ?

Usually, the finals have a reputation for being one of the most interesting matches of the tournament, and players give their all for a shot at the title. In the case of Swiatek, she was just better than her opponent and easily won the finals.
Netizens express their anger over the ‘no-show’ final between Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini
Polish ace Iga Swiatek became only the second woman after Serena Williams to win the triple crown of European red clay. Before Roland Garros, the Pole won two consecutive Masters titles in Madrid and Rome and completed the trio with the Grand Slam.
She was up against Jasmine Paolini, who was having a dream run in Paris. The Italian has been phenomenal and landed herself in the final of the Grand Slam in both singles and doubles. Although she lost the match quickly, she still has a chance to win a maiden slam in doubles.
Paolini was also applauded for playing the singles final with a smile, even though she was beaten in straight sets. However, many of the netizens did not like the one-sidedness of the match and expected more competition. Check out the reactions below:
I will keep saying it, women tennis is trash. ?️ they shouldn’t earn same amount as the men in slams. Why exactly can’t women play best of 5 in a slam final? Pure trash ?

That was the worst finals ever 1 hour and 8 minutes. @JasminePaolini literally the crowd cheered when you score 1 point in the second set. I mean up 2-1 in the first set and you score 1 point after that. I wasted an hour of my life

The luckiest player ever who doesn’t have a big competition, for sure she will beat Serena’s grand slam titles in few years if strong players doesn’t come on her way !

It doesn’t feel like a final match tbh and that makes me miss Serena, Sharapova , Azarinka etc
I mean what else were you expecting..

Paolini stood no chance against Iga..
In any case Iga deserved it ❤️
The issue with the women’s tennis is yes IGA is very good, but there seems to be no fight from them. No long rallies, not even delaying the inevitable. 6-4 in men’s tennis can be well over 60 mins at times whereas most times for women it’s 20-30 mins. Just wanna see more fight

Boring and easy. But that’s Igas greatness at work

Literally this was terrible to watch

Nobody cares ??

Nevertheless, with this win, Swiatek found herself breaking multiple records and entering the history books to be alongside some of the greats of the sport. By winning three straight titles in Roland Garros, Swiatek became only the third woman in the Open Era to do so after Justine Henin and Monica Seles.
In Case You Missed It:
- “This was something else,” Iga Swiatek expresses her true feelings after winning Roland Garros for a record 4th time
- “To play you here is the toughest challenge,” Jasmine Paolini all praise for Iga Swiatek after losing to her in straight sets at Roland Garros Finals
