“Naive and unnecessary tweet” – Fans slam Mohammad Kaif for controversial remarks on Team India
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif congratulated Rohit and team India on Twitter after their victory over Sri Lanka. But a certain part of his tweet made fans condemn him.
Now that Rohit Sharma has become the all-format Indian captain after replacing Virat Kohli, he remained unbeaten across all formats and won 14 games so far. He clean-swept New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka. Fans and cricketers praised him over his astonishing leadership at home and the 2-0 win over Sri Lanka. Kaif, who also took to Twitter to praise the team, made certain remarks on Rahul Dravid, Rohit and co., which raised some eyebrows. Kaif’s remarked about Rohit’s captaincy to make India a ‘world-beating Test unit’ under the new head coach Rahul Dravid. This made the fans think that he is ignoring the achievements of team India under Virat Kohli’s leadership.
Fans believe that both the previous captain and head coach, Kohli and Ravi Shastri should deserve some respect for the hardwork and team management. They began to say that the current Test team is made by Kohli and Shastri, and Rohit is just enjoying it. They didn’t like the open favouritism from such a former international player.
Who is a better captain for Team India? Rohit or Kohli?
The cricket world was shocked when BCCI removed Kohli and appointed Rohit as their white-ball skipper. Kohli remained the Test skipper but earlier this year, he stepped down from Test captaincy as well. This created some perplexity among the Kohli-fans because, under Kohli, India had the chance to dominate Test cricket.
While Rohit has performed his captaincy duty excellently, he has not been challenged much. Their victory over Sri Lanka at home mattered less, the real test will be with the strong teams in the overseas conditions against countries like Australia. And it’s unfair to judge him over the cricket at home.
Under Kohli, team India did reach a peak, won games overseas. India clinched their first Test trophy in Australia. Also, they’re leading with 2-1 against England, which was postponed and will conclude this year. The biggest challenge Rohit will face will be the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, starting in October.
