Stefanos Tsitsipas announced on his Instagram story that he has ended his partnership with Goran Ivanisevic. It’s uncertain with whom Tsitsipas will travel during the North American hard-court swing.
Tsitsipas was last seen in action at Wimbledon, where, due to a back injury, he couldn’t continue his match after losing the first two sets against Frenchman Valentin Royer. The Greek ace hired Novak Djokovic‘s former coach after Roland Garros, where the former French Open runner-up lost in the fourth round to Matteo Gigante in four sets.
Working with Goran Ivanisevic was brief but an intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey. I’m thankful for the time, effort and energy he dedicated to me and my team.
The Croatian coach, in several interviews, criticized the 26-year-old for his fitness problems and match preparation, urging him to sort out things off the court that Tsitsipas is dealing with. The two-time Grand Slam finalist played two tournaments under Ivanisevic- both on grass. In Halle, Alex Michelsen ended his campaign in the fourth round, followed by a mid-match retirement at SW19.
As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran — not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person. I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward.

This is the second time Ivanisevic parted ways with a player this season after a very short partnership. Earlier in January, he left WTA ace Elena Rybakina‘s team right after her Australian Open exit because of the Stefano Vukov saga.
The last time Ivanisevic had a long collaboration with a player was with Djokovic. The Serb lifted 12 out of his 24 Grand Slam titles under the tutelage of the 53-year-old. They split in March last year, following which the 100-time singles champion hired his longtime rival Andy Murray, but the partnership did not last for more than six months.
Fans slam Stefanos Tsitsipas for firing Goran Ivanisevic
The news of Stefanos Tsitsipas‘ ending his partnership with a renowned coach like Goran Ivanisevic was not met with positive reactions. But some perhaps believed that Ivanisevic’s criticism of his ex-protege in the interview would eventually result in the split. In spite of that, fans were convinced that Ivanisevic would have helped the former World No.3 get back to the top 10.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is getting really good at writing press releases—at least he’s acquiring a skill set that he can use in the future when he’s no longer attempting to play tennis. #USOPEN2025 #TENNIS #UsOpen #Tsitsipas pic.twitter.com/vPxQRH9vgd

Tsitsipas is next scheduled to play the Canadian Open, where he was the runner-up in 2018. Last year in North America, Tsitsipas suffered early exits in the three tournaments he had played, including at the US Open, where Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis ended his run in the first round. He produced his best at Flushing Meadows in 2020 and 2021 when he made it to the third round.
In June this season, Tsitsipas, who has a 19-13 win-loss record, dropped out of the top 20. He produced his best at the Dubai Open, where he ended his trophy drought by beating Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 12-time singles titlist is on the verge of dropping outside of the top 30 for the first time since July 2018.
Last year, Tsitsipas lifted just one title. He became a Monte Carlo Masters champion for the third time in his career with a straight-set win over three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud. Next, he reached the final of the Barcelona Open, but this time, the Norwegian ace avenged his defeat.
The last time Tsitsipas lifted multiple titles in a season was in 2022. He had reached seven finals, but was successful in winning just the Monte Carlo Masters and the Mallorca Open- his first title on grass.
