A season-ending injury like the one Vince Williams Jr. suffered on Monday night is never a pleasant sight. The Utah Jazz suffered a heavy 125-105 defeat to the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. It was a game that the Jazz were always chasing since tip-off and were down by as much as 21 points at the end of the first half.

It was Utah Jazz‘s third loss in a row. The loss dropped their record to 18-40 as they sit at 13th place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Rockets climbed over the Denver Nuggets to third place in the standings and improved their record to 35-21 for the season.

The Jazz have been in the headlines over the last two weeks for the wrong reasons. It seemed that head coach Will Hardy and the Jazz had found a way to exploit tanking. This is not the first time the Jazz have come under the scanner for tanking. They have been guilty of it in the past few seasons.

However, it backfired for the club in the end when NBA commissioner Adam Silver finally took action against them. The Jazz organization were fined $500,000 for conduct detrimental to the league related to the team’s games against the Orlando Magic on Feb. 7 and the Miami Heat on Feb. 9.

Unfortunately, the club dealt a huge blow on Monday night against the Rockets. Jazz guard Vince Williams Jr. suffered a horrific knee injury in the first half, and the early signs do not look promising for the player.

While running down the court on a fast break early in the second quarter, Williams was hip-checked by Rockets forward Tari Eason. As he tried to steady himself after the collision, Williams’ knee bent in the wrong direction, and he fell out of bounds in front of the Jazz bench. The 25-year-old needed help to walk off the court.

NBA fans react to Vince Williams Jr.’s horrific injury

Jazz sources fear this is an ACL injury and that it could mean significant recovery time for Vince Williams Jr. After being helped off the court by the Jazz staff, he was later seen leaving the arena on crutches.

Following the injury, several videos of the injury began circulating on the internet, and fans were quick to react to the unfortunate incident.

Williams will undergo an MRI on Tuesday and will be hoping for the best. Several fans called out Eason for causing the injury and felt it was a dirty play on his part.

Tari Eason went to Jazz locker room to check on Vince Williams Jr.

The injury looked gruesome, and if it is an ACL tear, it is going to be a long road to recovery for Williams. Williams was averaging 7.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season.

It is a difficult moment for Tari Eason as well. While Eason did push the guard, the intention is never to injure the opponent. After the game, NBA insider Sarah Todd reported that Eason went to the locker room to check on Williams.

“Tari Eason went to the Jazz locker room right after the game to check on Vince. Said there was no malicious intent and wanted to make sure that Vince knew he was never trying to hurt anyone.”

Williams, Jaren Jackson Jr., Jock Landale, and John Konchar were traded to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Kyle AndersonWalter Clayton Jr.Taylor HendricksGeorges Niang, and three first-round draft picks to the Memphis Grizzlies at the trade deadline this year.
