It has been a while since the NBA world has heard of Dejounte Murray. The former 29th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft has not made an appearance in nearly a year. Murray was seen recently in a video that went viral on social media, where he was confronted by an NBA fan who was unhappy over losing a betting parlay.
Since being drafted from the San Antonio Spurs to the New Orleans Pelicans in the offseason in 2024, the Pelicans have not had the results they were hoping for. After playing 31 games in the 2024-25 campaign, Dejounte Murray suffered a torn right Achilles tendon that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. The 29-year-old guard is yet to make an appearance this campaign and is expected to take to the court in January.
Despite having the likes of Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum within their ranks, the Pelicans have been a total mess since last season. After finishing 14th with an abysmal 21-61 record, the club find itself at 13th at the moment with an 8-22 record in the Western Conference standings. They have shown some signs of improvement as they currently find themselves in the middle of a five-match winning streak.
Recently, the Pelicans guard was seen having a heated confrontation with a fan on the streets. The fan complained about missing an over, Murray did not seem pleased and offered some blunt advice.
F*k yo over, lil n**a. Stop betting. Save your money!
“Fuck yo over lil nigga”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has had his hands full with all the recent gambling allegations surrounding the NBA, which has resulted in the arrests of Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier by the FBI. But the confrontation by the fan is quite baffling as Murray is yet to take to the court this season, hence, it would make no sense to bet on a player who is not playing.
Fans react to Dejounte Murray’s response to the fan
While Murray’s comments may have been blunt and offensive, fans praised the guard’s response and advice to the gambler on the internet. Here are some of the reactions:

James Borrego on Zion Williamson’s new role
If there is one player who has struggled with injuries throughout their career, it is Zion Williamson. The former number one pick has been riddled with injuries ever since being drafted into the NBA in 2019. This season has been no different as the forward has played in only 14 games out of a possible 30.

Since his return from a groin injury, Pelicans head coach James Borrego has found a new role for Williamson. The 25-year-old came off the bench in the Pelicans’ win over the Dallas Mavericks for the fourth game in a row and put in a commanding performance, scoring 24 points to go along with nine rebounds in 25 minutes.
While Williamson is averaging his lowest points per game in his NBA career, he is still averaging 21.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists so far this campaign.
Following the win over the Mavs, Borrego spoke about Williamson’s new role as the sixth man since his return from injury.
The goal was to maximize his minutes. It’s a math game. I knew he was gonna respond well but for him to approach it this way in the mature, team first mentality, he deserves credit for that.

It remains to be seen if Williamson will continue to come off the bench as the season progresses, but for now, the move has proven to be a masterstroke. Borrego may look to keep things the way they are as the Pelicans look to extend their five-match winning streak.
