It is no secret that Vinicius Jr. is a different player altogether when he puts on the Brazil jersey. The 2024 Ballon d’Or finalist was far from his best as Brazil were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Venezuela on Friday. While Barcelona man Raphinha scored the only goal for Brazil, Vinicius also made headlines, but for the wrong reasons.

The Brazil No.7 had just one shot on target throughout the game, with his pass accuracy at just 71%. All of his four attempted crosses failed to find the target while the only ‘big’ chance he created culminated in nothing. However, the player let his emotions get the better of him as he went on a furious rant aimed at the match officials, needing new No.10 Raphinha to lead him away.

A viral clip on social media shows the 24-year-old pointing his finger at an official while protesting angrily. Raphinha then intervenes as he pulls the player back onto the pitch.

Even though Raphinha stunned audiences with his marvelous free-kick, Venezuela clawed their way back into the game through Telasco Segovia.

Fans react to Vinicius Jr.’s angry touchline rant

Many, including former Real Madrid boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo believe that Vinicius Jr. missed out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or due to his behavior. The player’s antics on the pitch against Venezuela forced several fans to repeat the same as a fan added that Real Madrid players are classless and arrogant.

Another claimed that maybe this is what Vinicius means when he posted ‘I’ll do it 10x’ on X after the Ballon d’Or ceremony. Fans also mocked Vinicius’ ‘I just want to play football’ claim made in the past as several others criticized his lack of restraint. A fan also pointed out that Raphinha started that argument and that fans are simply prejudiced towards the Real Madrid man.

As things stand, Brazil are fourth in the World Cup qualification table and have 17 points from 11 games. Argentina’s Lionel Messi was also spotted having a go at the referee after his team surprisingly lost 2-1 to Paraguay. Brazil play their next game against Uruguay, who are on the back of a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Colombia.
