Stephen A. Smith has figured out a way the Washington Commanders can solve their stadium issues. The veteran sports analyst and possible future political face proposed that the NFC East franchise should consider playing in the same stadium as its regional rivals.
The Washington Commanders are in the process of building a $3.7 billion new stadium on the site where the RFK Stadium once stood. However, the plans are at Donald Trump’s mercy.
Trump threatened to halt the stadium’s construction unless the Washington owners adopted their old ‘Redskins’ name. Smith, on Monday’s segment of ESPN’s Get Up, proposed the Commanders can avoid Trump’s wrath by sharing space with the Baltimore Ravens.
That was the idea that I threw out last year, that the Ravens and the Commanders should actually share a stadium. You got a minimum of 17 to 18 weeks where you got games there, plus playoff games and all of that stuff, plus events in the offseason. And it’s the state of Maryland that you have to deal with instead of this nonsense.

"I've always wanted a stadium in the state of Maryland that the Ravens and the Washington Commanders could share."
That would be an over hour+ drive for fans 🧐 pic.twitter.com/9bpcgpDipF
It’s not a bad proposition until he realizes that both sets of fans hate each other. They may be neighbors, separated by a one-hour drive, but Maryland and DC folks don’t usually share similar views on football or politics.
Stephen A. Smith gets blasted for suggesting that the Commanders should share a stadium with the Ravens
Smith makes a strong case and has a history in his corner as proof. The New York Jets and the New York Giants relocated to the same MetLife Stadium because constructing a new stadium from the ground up proved too costly due to inflation.

In 2020, Los Angeles witnessed the inauguration of the SoFi Stadium. A state-of-the-art facility that can seat nearly 70,000 fans at the same time in the bleachers.
Smith must have thought that the same arrangement could work for the Commanders and the Ravens. However, the consensus is against it. Baltimore and Washington fans don’t want to coexist in the same stadium space.
Stay off the 🌱 eeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEED! @stephenasmith must be higher than his hairline talking this prattle. #graychillin https://t.co/2cn0w3Iaiu

Stephen A. Smith is not a fan of the Commanders or Ravens, is not a native of DC or Baltimore, has never lived in Baltimore or DC, and has never worked in the primary markets of either team… of course he thinks the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders can share a stadium

Why the heck would they share a stadium? It’s so annoying for both teams
— Sports Analyst (@BocaSportsBets) July 21, 2025
This is the dumbest idea I have heard. The Redskins should be in DC or NoVA. The Ravens are good where they are at.

@stephenasmith pls retire & check yourself into a mental hospital. The gig is up unc.

No dude. Redskins fans have always owned DC. The ravens are an expansion team the took over after the Baltimore Colts left. The Commies are the latest expansion team and they share no history with the Super Bowl champions of the legendary Redskins.

This absolutely ridonkulous! There is no way that Baltimore wants anything to do with DC and vise versa. That would be like if the Steelers and Eagles both played at Beaver Stadium in State College, PA instead of the Linc and Heinz Field. STOP THE FREAKING PRESSES!

The Ravens and the Commanders have faced off eight times in the NFL since 1996. Despite being the newer club, the Baltimore franchise has a 5-3 record against its NFC counterpart.
The Ravens welcomed the Commanders to M&T Bank Stadium in week 6 of the 2024-25 season. Despite rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels‘ 269-yard and two-touchdown effort, the Commanders lost the fixture 30-23.
Lamar Jackson had 360+ all-purpose yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 pick in the game. Running back Derrick Henry ran for 132 yards on 24 touches and scored 2 rushing touchdowns.
They will play a pre-season friendly at Landover in August before the regular season. According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Commanders drew the 19th toughest schedule while the Ravens drew 21st.
