In their UEFA Champions League fifth-round encounter, the Arsenal registered a thumping 5-1 win over Sporting CP. The Gunners strolled to their third league stage victory following their defeat to Inter Milan in the previous round.

Arsenal took the lead in the seventh minute after Gabriel Martinelli tapped home from Jurrien Timber’s cross. They doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when Bukayo Saka dribbled the ball past the defense to fire a brilliant cross towards Kai Havertz, who slotted in from close range.

Despite Sporting dominating the possession and shots, Arsenal had the last laugh. The home side, following manager Ruben Amorim’s departure to Manchester United, started the match under new head coach Joao Pereira.

The win leaves Arsenal in seventh place on the UCL table, while Sporting is one place behind them. The Portuguese giants had a big drop from the second position, which they had achieved following their shock 4-1 win over Manchester City

Arsenal, meanwhile, brought their UCL campaign back on track, after having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan earlier this month. They also ended their four-match Premier League win-less streak this week by claiming a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.
