Raphinha has, without a doubt, been one of the best players in Europe this season. His performances for Barcelona under Hansi Flick have been a level above that of his teammates. With 13 goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions, his inclusion in the Brazil squad was a given. However, the player was also handed the iconic No.10 for the Selecao ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Brazil are currently in fourth spot in the table, with 16 points from 10 games in the CONMEBOL qualifiers. In the absence of Real Madrid star Rodrygo, the No. 10 has been handed to the Barcelona forward. His passionate and impressive performances at club level also handed him the captain’s armband for games against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Raphinha netted twice in his last game for Brazil as they demolished Peru 4-0. Despite both of his goals coming from the penalty spot, there is no doubt whatsoever as to the enormity of his contribution to Brazil.

Brazil’s next game is against Venezuela in an away fixture, and will need the forward to deliver alongside Vinicius Jr. and Manchester City’s Savinho.

Fans react to Raphinha being handed the No.10

Previously worn by the likes of Neymar Jr., Ronaldinho Gaucho, Rivaldo and Kaka, the weight of the No. 10 can only be carried by a select few. A fan commented that Raphinha is 100% deserving of the same and that his performances speak for themselves.

A fan acknowledged that the 27-year-old is extremely close to being the best player in the world. Despite his impressive form, a fan commented that he got the number only because Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is out injured. The player was forced off the pitch with an injury against Osasuna in his side’s most recent game in La Liga.

As things stand, Raphinha is certainly on his way to cement his claim as one of the best in Europe. An impressive stint as No. 10 will only prove beneficial for the player as well as his country. Raphinha’s electric form may also help head coach Dorival Junior to please his critics and keep his job, for now.
