Fans have been left thrilled with Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres‘ emergence as one of Europe’s most elite strikers. The 26-year-old forward has scored ten goals and provided five assists in just 10 matches this season for club and country.
Gyokeres played a pivotal role in Sporting CP’s Portuguese League triumph last season, ending the season with 43 goals and 14 assists. He had signed for Ruben Amorim’s side last summer, after a convincing spell in the Championship with Coventry City. He is already up and running this season, having already scored seven goals in the just four matches for the Portuguese giants. Apart from that, he most recently scored for Sweden, in two consecutive wins over Estonia and Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from top clubs around Europe, with Arsenal being among the front-runners to sign him. The Gunners had hoped to sign him this summer, but his massive £85 million release clause proved to be a hindrance. The club instead opted to sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea. Having missed out on their primary striker target, Arsenal will definitely be back in the race to sign the forward, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United also interested.
This guy is unbelievable. How big clubs haven’t gone all out for him is beyond me

The Swedish international still has four years remaining in his contract at Sporting, and it would require a huge fee to lure him away from the Portuguese capital. In case of a transfer, it would surely eclipse Cristiano Ronaldo’s historic 2009 transfer to Man Utd.
Fans praise Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres for his recent exploits, after a brilliant 2023-24 season
Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the most prolific forwards in Europe, emerging as a transfer target for several high-profile clubs. The 26-year-old number nine has hit headlines, after bagging more than 100 goal contributions in his last three seasons in top-level football.
Fans praised his early exploits for both club and country this season, with some of them questioning why big clubs did not identify him as a transfer target, this summer. One fan labeled Gyokeres as the ‘next big thing’. Another fan urged La Liga giants Barcelona to sign the forward, in order to replace the ageing Robert Lewandowski.
Maybe, Gyokeres is the guy all along. ?
