The Instagram sensation Ryan Garcia completely turned the tide in his favor after his surprising performance against Devin Haney. Many people believed that Garcia would not stand a chance against The Dream, who was undefeated before this fight. However, KingRy became the first person to knock down Haney three times in a professional fight. Even though Haney lost via majority decision, he is still enjoying his defeat since he remains the WBC super-lightweight champion.
Garcia’s discipline has been questionable throughout the buildup to the fight. This may have caused the young boxer to miss the 140-pound mark during their weigh-ins. As such, KingRy weighed in at 143.2 pounds and paid a hefty $1.5 million because of their agreement. The fight went forward as planned after Garcia paid this amount. However, Haney’s WBC super-lightweight title was no longer on the line since KingRy missed weight.
Furthermore, The Dream suffered his first professional loss after his illustrious career of having 31 wins and 15 via knockout. Hence, the only consolation that the former undefeated boxer has is that he remains the champion of the 140-pound division. Haney was also seen celebrating the fact that he retained his title after his devastating loss.
In the video, the boxer is surrounded by his close acquaintances while a cake is being cut with sparklers lit. The cake also had “we love you, champ” written on it. Subsequently, people around Haney were chanting “and still,” which was about how Haney is still the WBC super-lightweight champion.
