On Monday, Novak Djokovic secured a significant win at Wimbledon, defeating Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. This victory allowed the former World No.1 to advance to the quarter-finals. However, the match wasn’t without its fair share of controversy.
During the match, there was some people chanting in the crowd. Djokovic mentioned in his courtside interview that some fans were booing him, while many on social media claim they were supporting his opponent. There were many fans in the Centre Court crowd with Danish flags.

To all those people that have chosen to disrespect the player [in this case me], have a GOOD night.Novak Djokovic said in his post-match interview
Regardless of whether Djokovic is right or the fans on the internet are right, the truth is yet to be known. However, the tennis world does know that the Serbian thrives in situations where the crowd is against him.
The best example is the Wimbledon 2019 final against Roger Federer, where the former World No.1 was down two championship points. However, he clawed back to win the match 13-12 in the deciding set.
Novak Djokovic’s post-match comments make tennis fans on Twitter crazy
After the antics displayed by Novak Djokovic in his Wimbledon fourth-round match against Holger Rune, Twitter tennis fans quickly took to the platform to criticize the Serbian. Many claimed that the chants were primarily in favor of his opponent rather than against him.
Check out some reactions here:
Previously, Rune had challenged Djokovic, winning two out of their five Lexus ATP Head2Head matches, including the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters final. However, he was a mere distraction to an inspired Serbian.
Next, Djokovic will face Alex de Minaur. The Australian earned his spot in the Wimbledon quarter-finals by defeating France’s Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. This will be de Minaur’s first appearance in a Wimbledon quarter-final and he has tasted success against Djokovic this year, beating him in straight sets in the United Cup earlier this year.
