In Short
  • James Harden was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Los Angeles Clippers in a surprising move.
  • His recent AI promotional video faced backlash for multiple errors, including incorrect shooting hand and misspelled name.
  • Former NBA player J.R. Smith expressed skepticism about Harden's playoff performance despite his strong regular-season stats.

The biggest move at the trade deadline this season was James Harden‘s move to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland and a second-round pick. Harden joins hands with Donovan Mitchell, and the two guards are expected to make some noise in the East this season.

The trade was a surprise to many as James Harden and Kawhi Leonard seemed to have steadied the ship after a disastrous start to the 2025-26 campaign for the Los Angeles Clippers. They had won 17 of their last 22 games before Harden’s move.

Based on his first-half performances with the Clippers, Harden has shown he is still an elite guard in the league. He is currently averaging 24.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 8.1 assists. The move for Harden shows that the Cavs are throwing all their eggs into the basket, and their championship window is now.

Drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder as the third pick in the 2009 NBA draft, Harden has achieved immense success in his 17-year NBA career. He won the regular-season MVP award in 2018, three scoring titles, two assists titles, and is an 11-time All-Star.

The 36-year-old partnered with an AI company and dropped an AI video about his NBA career. However, the AI video seemed to have several issues.

The Cavs guard is reported to have inked a deal with Utopai Studios, and as part of the deal, he’s shared a career recap made using the generative model.

NBA fans ridicule James Harden for AI career recap video

James Harden is no stranger to promotional deals, but his latest is making him the subject of ridicule in the NBA world.

The internet did not waste any time in trolling the former MVP on social media.

The fans ridiculed the AI video and trolled the animators for their poor work. It included Harden shooting with his right hand (he is left-handed), the basketball missing in sequences, and his name spelled incorrectly on his jersey. As expected, Harden’s backing of the video has led to a wave of backlash and ridicule.

J.R. Smith doubts James Harden will deliver for Cleveland Cavaliers in the playoffs

While James Harden is undoubtedly one of the greatest guards to ever play the game, he has had his fair share of critics throughout his career. He has fallen short more often than not in the playoffs. Since trading for Harden, the Cavs have gone 8-1 with “The Beard” in the lineup.

Former NBA champion J.R. Smith knows what it takes to win a championship. Smith made an appearance on “To The Baha” podcast and questioned Harden’s ability to step up in the playoffs.

I honestly wasn’t a fan of the trade when it first happened. It looks good now, I need to see this, which we’ve never seen him, in the playoffs deliver. So, respectfully, I need to see it then. I promise I knew all of this was gonna happen. After every trade he’s gone, he starts hooping, he do all of this and when it comes to the bright lights. James is my guy, I love him to death, but he has a track record. I’ll see you then!

Harden has been to just one NBA Final back in 2012, when he was coming off the bench for the Thunder. Since then, he made it to the Western Conference Finals twice in 2015 and 2018 but could not get the Houston Rockets over the hump against the eventual champions, Golden State Warriors.
