It wasn’t exactly the kind of start that Real Madrid was looking forward to in the latest edition of La Liga as they started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Mallorca. Despite securing an early lead through Rodrygo, Los Blancos conceded the lead as Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi found the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
With Madrid taking the yard, all eyes were on their latest recruit, Kylian Mbappe after the French international already scored in the UEFA Super Cup. Sadly enough for the fans, he had a very uneventful first half with barely any forays to so for. The second half, however, was comparatively better but didn’t see the Frenchman score.
It was the 62nd minute of the game and Real Madrid was still reeling from the shock of the Muriqi equalizer when Mbappe made his presence felt. Latching onto an excellent ball from Jude Bellingham, Mbappe cut in from the left and let loose a piledriver that hammered the base of the post. A few minutes later, there was another chance for Mbappe and a very weak shot from the former PSG striker saw the Mallorca custodian, Dominic Greif palm that away.
That was the last imperative essay carved by Kylian Mbappe on the evening. After this, it was a very tame exchange between the two teams with Mallorca coming close on a couple of occasions. To make matters interesting, Real Madrid had to play with 10 men towards the end of the first half as Ferland Mendy was given the marching orders for a brash tackle on Vedat Muriqi.
Here is what Twitter now known as X had to say about Kylian Mbappe
The draw salvaged by Mallorca is going to be an amazing result for them because they finished in the 15th spot in the last season. With eight wins from the 38 games while registering 16 draws, they garnered 40 points. However, this draw was a true reflection of their grit and character.
X formerly was visibly unimpressed with what Mbappe had to offer in the opening encounter. Fans pointed out that this is not exactly where Mbappe thrives and he will have to work way harder than what his workload was in the French league.
Mallorca will be next up against Osasuna away from home and will be hopeful of registering another significant display that can get the world talking. However, Real Madrid will need to get their priorities straight if they are to get back to winning ways against Valladolid.
