Just days ahead of her AEW TBS title defense against Britt Baker at All In, Mercedes Mone has opened up on what led to her becoming an All Elite Superstar. Writing in her Mone Mag newsletter, the 32-year-old claimed that she was planning to return to WWE at WrestleMania 39. Had she pulled it off, that’d marked her first appearance in the company since infamously walking out in mid-2022.

However, it just didn’t happen. What followed was an invite from AEW president, Tony Khan asking Mone and team to come over and visit the All In pay-per-view in London, which was the biggest show Khan has produced to date. At that juncture, as Mercedes affirmed, there were no discussions about her potential signing with All Elite Wrestling.

The CEO paid a visit to the Wembley Stadium that day just because she loves wrestling. However, that might’ve been the cue she needed to figure out her next destination. Though it took a while, Mercedes Mone ended up closing a deal with AEW earlier this year. There were incessant rumors of Mone’s WWE return as well under Triple H‘s vigilance.

In fact, Mone and WWE were in the loop in late 2023. The Mandalorian actress was close to re-signing with them, but the talks fell through in the end as both parties were far apart on money. After that, it was almost certain that Mercedes would be going to AEW, and she did.

Some might wonder why Mone couldn’t fetch any fruit out of her desire to go back to WWE at WrestleMania in LA. Though it’s mere speculation at this point, Vince McMahon forcing his way back to the mix would’ve done the damage. Mind you, Mone quit WWE over creative disputes, and Vince was at the helm back then.

Fans slam Mercedes Mone for being delusional about WWE return aspirations

To move past WWE might now feel like a blessing in disguise to Mercedes Mone. After all, she’s reportedly the highest-paid women’s wrestler in history. Moreover, in one of her recent interviews, The Boss claimed to have a good measure of creative control in AEW.

But the fans haven’t taken it too kindly over her latest excerpt of how she had a WWE return in mind before the AEW switch. A fan called her spotlight junkie. Many of them trolled her for thinking that she might get paid whatever figure she envisaged from WWE.

One claimed that Tony Khan has yet to see a return on the heavy investment he has made in Mone. One trolled The Blueprint, saying Tony might need to have her go through some therapy. Clearly the fans are upset over Mone’s sub-par AEW stint thus far.
