The Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-1 series lead against the second-seed Houston Rockets. It was a remarkable achievement for Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and their teammates, considering they struggled to stay in the playoff places towards the end of the regular season.

After winning three games out of four, it was a foregone conclusion that the Warriors would move on to the next round. At least that is what 95% of the teams have done when they stand at 3-1 in any playoff series.

Game 5 was an anomaly as the Rockets blitzed the Warriors at their home from the get-go. Once head coach Steve Kerr understood there was no point exhausting his starters to try and chase that deficit, he pulled them.

The idea was to stay fresh to finish the job back at home. Tonight was that Game 6 where Warriors fans packed Chase Center to watch their team close the series. For the first three quarters, the game was a back-and-forth affair.

Both teams fought to build a lead, whereas the other would try and stage a rally of their own. The Rockets understood the task at hand and decided to slow the Warriors down in the fourth. The plan worked, and the Warriors did not make a field goal for seven straight minutes.

Most notably, Stephen Curry went cold in that fourth quarter. He ended up with just three points scoring 1-7 from the field. These late-game struggles might end up costing the Warriors this series, and more importantly for Curry, another blown 3-1 lead on his resume.

Fans cannot believe Stephen Curry might bottle another 3-1 lead

Stephen Curry and his Golden State Warriors are famous for winning four championships in a decade. They became the presumptive global favorites, which has seen the franchise’s value increase to nearly $9 billion. However, Curry and his same Warriors are also known to be the only team ever to lose a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

That was against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, with the possibility of blowing this first-round series, fans believe Curry’s legacy comes into question. Some believe he would lose ground in the list of top-10 NBA players of all time. Check out some of those social media comments below.

To be fair, Stephen Curry mentioned that the current Warriors team will need time to become a championship contender. However, he still wants to win the title No. 5 as soon as possible. However, fans believe that has nothing to do with the fact that they are about to lose a series which was already in the bag.

Curry and Steve Kerr should have taken Game 5 seriously

Stephen Curry and his teammates looked lost against the Houston Rockets in Game 5. They struggled to stay within reach, and the final score did not fully reveal how far behind they were at certain times in the game.

At the time, Steve Kerr decided to bench his starters with the view of attacking Game 6 at home. After tonight’s result, it might seem in hindsight that Kerr should have pursued that victory. If his bench players could reduce a near thirty-point deficit to seventeen, players with their last names Curry, Butler, and Green could have done much more.

Retrospectively, situations might seem different. However, one cannot let go of the fact that those Bay Area superstars did not take Game 5 seriously. They allowed the Rockets to control the game, which helped them cruise to a dominating win.

More importantly, that victory gave them momentum, which now seems to be clearly on their side. The Golden State Warriors now head to Houston to try and win Game 7 and extend their playoff run. Else, Curry might lose a lot of ground in people’s minds, especially after the way his cold fourth quarter cost them Game 6.
