Fans at Italian Open 2020, Sports Minister of Italy confirms

The Italian Open 2020 which is only one of the two clay-court tournaments this time for the players to prepare for the French Open 2020 began earlier this week in Rome.

The field includes top players from around the tennis world with notable players being Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic on the men’s side whereas the women’s draw includes Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, the defending champion. Notable absentees for the Italian Open are Alexander Zverev, this year’s US Open finalist and Dominic Thiem, US Open champion. On the women’s side, the draw will miss big names like Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, US Open champion.

Rafael Nadal, defending champion marks his return to tennis after 9 months in Rome. He skipped the US Open this year in order to prepare well for the clay-court season. As the Italian Open 2020 enters its final stages there is good news for fans in Rome who would want to watch the players in the stadium as the Sports Ministry of Italy has granted access to upto 1000 for the semi-finals and the finals of the tournament.

Fans allowed for the semifinals and finals with proper precautions

Sports Minister of Italy, Vincenzo Spadafora released a statement confirming the presence of fans in the semifinals and finals at the Italian Open 2020. The Sports Minister said fans upto 1000 in Italy are allowed to watch sports held outside provided they respect norms of social distancing, masks and reserved seating. This is one of the first moves to get the fans to the stadium after the Covid-19 pandemic

Fans in Rome will be excited by this announcement as they will be looking to make their way into the stadiums to witness the Italians and top players in action. For the first time 4 Italians have made it to the last 16 at Rome since 1979.
