Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes delivered arguably one of the best dunks of the 2025-26 campaign. After the recent slump, the Lakers are on a good run at the moment as they recorded a convincing 129-118 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on Monday night. It was their fourth win in their last five games.
In the midst of their eight-game road trip, the Lakers have won their third game halfway into the trip. The Lakers improved their record to 28-17 as they sit at fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the loss saw the Bulls’ four match winning streak come to an end as they dropped to 23-23 and find themselves at the ninth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Since acquiring Luka Doncic in the middle of last season, the Lakers front office have built their roster around the Slovenian guard as he is the focal point of this team. However, despite the Lakers’ strong start to the campaign, many still do not view them as championship contenders this season due to their poor defense. Doncic has put in impressive performances this season and scored a game-high 46 points to go along with seven rebounds and 11 assists on Monday, as he continues to make a case for league MVP.
Despite Doncic’s extraordinary performance, it was the Lakers’ backup center Jaxson Hayes who stole the show on Monday. Hayes made an impact against the Bulls when he produced an “Eastbay Dunk”, leaving everyone stunned.

Hayes has not seen too many minutes this season as he plays backup to Deandre Ayton. The 25-year-old was close to leaving the Lakers in the offseason due to his low usage in last season’s playoffs. However, the Lakers signed him to a one-year deal as they do not have much of a luxury and decided to keep Hayes as backup.
Lakers fans in a frenzy after Jaxson Hayes’ dunk against the Bulls
With under three minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Lakers had a 12-point lead over the Bulls. The Bulls were still in the game, but Hayes had other ideas. Hayes stole the spotlight with his dunk and ended any chances of a comeback by the Bulls. After the dunk went viral, the fans could not control their excitement across social media.

Hayes closed the game over, starting center Ayton, which has become a recurring theme over the past few games.
Jaxson Hayes admitted he could have missed the dunk
In 23 minutes of action, Hayes recorded eight points, four rebounds, one steal and two blocks. The center is known for throwing down powerful dunks by jumping from a long distance away from the rim.
Following the win, Hayes revealed that he expected to miss the dunk in his post-match locker-room interview.

I thought I was about to get hung by the rim so bad and I thought I was about to get yanked out of the game right away. Luckily, god was on my side, it got that the ball over the rim.
Q: "You weren't really that close to missing it were you?"

It was good, it worked out in the end, or else it would have been an embarrassing moment for the young star. In 37 appearances this season, he is averaging 6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.7 blocks.
