FC Barcelona secured their first major signing of the summer by acquiring Spanish attacking midfielder Dani Olmo from Leipzig in a deal valued at nearly €62 million. The 26-year-old Spaniard is set to sign a six-year contract with the Catalan club.

Barcelona has reached a verbal agreement with the German side to sign the talented 26-year-old. The deal is worth €55 million upfront plus €7 million in add-ons. Personal terms have already been agreed upon with Dani Olmo, who will be the first major addition under new manager Hansi Flick. Barca sporting director Deco traveled to Germany to negotiate with the club and Olmo’s agents, returning successfully.

Olmo is set to return to Barcelona after a decade, having graduated from the La Masia youth academy. However, the news of his signing is surprising to many, considering the club’s ongoing financial situation. He is scheduled to travel to Spain for his medical. The midfielder joins after an outstanding season with both club and country. He recently helped Spain win the Euro title, scoring in three knockout matches to secure the Golden Boot.

Additionally, Olmo is expected to link-up with fellow Spaniards Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri and Fermin Lopez at the club. Barcelona is still pursuing other signings after missing out on Spaniard Nico Williams.

FC Barcelona confirm departure of 32-year-old veteran midfielder

Veteran Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu left the club’s pre-season training camp in the US. The 32-year-old player joined La Liga side Girona, just 12 months after joining the Catalan club.

The move came as a shock, as the veteran Spaniard was expected to stay for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign. Romeu had joined Barcelona from Girona last summer as a replacement for Sergio Busquets. However, he struggled to fill the void left by the club legend and saw limited playing time in the second half of the season.

Girona has announced the player’s return on a season-long loan. There’s no buy option included in the deal, indicating that Barcelona might reassess Romeu’s future at the end of the season.
