FC Barcelona have reportedly made their first contact with Manchester United to secure a loan move for the out-of-favor star, Marcus Rashford, in the January transfer window. Steve Kay of Football Transfers reports that the Catalan club is looking into the transfer market for a versatile forward who can play in different positions in the attacking half.
The Manchester United player, who is not wanted by the Old Trafford club, has attracted the attention of the Blaugrana. Joan Laporta‘s club would want to finalize a loan move with a £35 million buyout clause in the deal. Rashford himself is pleased to go to Camp Nou. However, there has been no response from the Red Devils to the offer yet.
The manager, Ruben Amorim, has not picked him in the squad for the last two match days. Reports suggest that it is due to his off-field behavior. The player is going through a tough time in his boyhood club and has already made it known that he might want to try his luck somewhere else.
Rashford has amassed 138 goals and 63 assists in more than 400 appearances for his club. However, his stay at Old Trafford might end in the upcoming January transfer window, as several clubs are displaying their interest in the player. At the moment, it seems Barcelona is leading the race in his signing and would want to bring him in January.
Why Barcelona needs Marcus Rashford?
Hansi Flick has been overdependent on Raphinha and the 17-year-old Lamine Yamal in the attacking half. Both of these players have been performing at their absolute best this season. However, Yamal has already suffered an injury twice this season, and playing week in and week out for a player of his age is tough. Moreover, the future of Ferran Torres is not clear, and Robert Lewandowski is near the end of his career. So, the Catalans do need an extra option in the attacking department.
Rashford has excellent pace, which he can use to beat defenders in one-on-one situations. He has the instinctive ability to score goals and finish off chances. Rashford possesses close control of the ball and is a genuine dribbler. Rashford can play across the front line, whether as a central striker, on the left wing, or even on the right. His versatility makes him an asset for the Blaugrana club.
The SUN has reported that United doesn’t have an issue sanctioning a loan move for the player to any other league apart from England. Hence, there is a big possibility that the player might move to Barca in January.
