FC Barcelona are ready to go all out to sign Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window of 2025. The Blaugrana have been interested in the Norwegian star for a long time. Jota Jodi via El Chiringuit reports that the Catalan giants want to approach Manchester City next summer for Haaland.

Barca’s number nine, Robert Lewandowski, has scored many goals for the club this season. However, Joan Laporta feels that the 36-year-old won’t be able to maintain his form and fitness in the next season. They need a world-class number nine to replace Lewandowski in the long term.

FC Barcelona wanted to make a move for him in the summer transfer window of 2022. However, they failed in the move, and he joined Manchester City. However, Hansi Flick and co. are determined to revive their interest in signing him next summer.

Haaland is one of the best number nines in the world and has delivered for City for fun since joining the club. He helped his club win the treble in the first season and also helped City maintain dominance in the Premier League till the last season. However, his form hasn’t been that great this season, and City have also struggled for form.

The striker still has 18 goals in 23 matches this season. He has a long-standing contract with the club till 2027, but Barcelona can still pry him out in 2025 due to the 115 financial breaches that City are facing. Erling Haaland also has a release clause in his contract that could be effective next summer and help the Catalan club sign him.

Robert Lewandowski has 23 goals and two assists in the 23 games played across competitions so far this season. However, next season he will turn 37, and the Pole has already lost the pace and energy. His movements have been slow and he has also lacked the clinical edge at certain moments. Therefore, Barca do need a striker who can replace him in the long term.

Laporta is a big fan of Haaland and has always publicly stated his interest in signing him for the club. With Kylian Mbappe in the rival club, Real Madrid, Haaland’s introduction to the Barcelona squad could reignite a new rivalry in La Liga.

Barcelona are meanwhile topping the league standings with 38 points in 18 matches. They have won 12 matches, drawn two, and lost four games. They are second in the UCL points table with 15 points in six games. They have won five games and lost one game in the Champions League. If Lewandowski cannot deliver the UCL this season, Barcelona remains forced to search for the best replacement possible.
