FC Barcelona have announced that their young 17-year-old star, Lamine Yamal, will be out for 2-3 weeks after suffering a grade 1 right ankle syndesmosis injury. He had to sit out of game between Barcelona and Real Sociedad at the San Sebastián due to a ‘contusion’ he suffered earlier in the UEFA Champions League clash against Crvena Zvezda. Now, Spain have announced that Lamine Yamal will be replaced by Bryan Gil for this international break.

Yamal was present at the Ciutat Esportiva on Monday to have an examination of his injury, and tests confirmed that he has to undergo rehabilitation for two to three weeks. So, basically, he will be missing the entirety of the international break for Spain.

Test performed on the morning of Monday 11 November have revealed that Lamine Yamal has a grade 1 syndesmosis injury in his right ankle. He is expected to be out of action for between two and three weeks.

FC Barcelona posted in an official statement.

Yamal has been the main man for Barcelona this season and the team has been heavily dependent on his presence. It can be seen by the fact that the Blaugrana suffered defeats in those two La Liga matches where Yamal had not started.

Barca lost to Osasuna when Yamal was on the bench and now lost 1-0 against Real Sociedad when he could not play a single minute in the game. The youngster won the Kopa Trophy for being the best young talent last season.

Yamal might miss La Liga game against Celta Vigo and the UCL clash against Brest

Immediately after the international break, Barcelona will face Celta Vigo away in La Liga and also take on Brest at home in a UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash. The 17-year-old may miss these two games, so the Catalan club will need to find alternatives to impact the matches and secure positive results.

Meanwhile, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has called up Girona winger, Bryan Gil, for the international fixtures. Yamal has been influential and a regular player for Spain along with Barcelona. He was one of the main reasons why Spain went on to win the UEFA Euro in 2024.

Now, Gil will be in the squad for the Spanish side’s two group-stage matches in the Nations League against Denmark and Switzerland in Tenerife.

Meanwhile, after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Real Sociedad, the Catalan club are just six points ahead of their arch-rival Real Madrid at the top of the table. On the flip side, Madrid do have a game in their hand.

Barcelona now have 33 points from 13 games, having won 11 matches and lost two. They are set to face Celta Vigo away from home next.
