Barcelona have expressed much interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender, Jonathan Tah, as they look forward to bolstering their defense. Despite the rise of youngster Pau Cubarsi and a seasoned Inigo Martinez, the Catalans have been looking around to plug the gap that has been created with Ronald Araujo’s injury.

Reports emerged a few days ago that Real Madrid was eyeing for Jonathan Tah to accentuate their defensive echelons in the midst of growing injury concerns. However, Sky Germany has reported that it is Barcelona who have emerged as the favorites to land the German international, as his contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires at the end of this season.

The report states that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco met with Tah’s agent Pini Zahavi on Thursday, December 5th. Another sporting outlet Jijantes reported that Deco, Tah and his representatives met at a restaurant in Leverkusen and all of them walked out of the meeting ‘elated’. It is also said that Tah’s agent, Zahavi shares a very good bond with Barcelona which has helped the negotiations move forth.

In the following year, Tah will be entering the last six months of his contract at Leverkusen and will be eyeing for new suitors. On the official front of the German international, there is still to be clarity about where his destination lies in the forthcoming season.

Tah was an integral part of Bayer Leverkusen and went onto lift the Bundesliga in 2023-24. In 2024-25, Leverkusen has done a fair job as they continue to be in the third position with 23 points, seven adrift of league leaders, Bayern Munich.
