“Feels amazing to achieve qualification” – Nethra Kumanan speaks on making it to the Olympics

Nethra Kumanan recently scripted history when she became the first Indian sailor to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in the laser radial class after a superb showing at the Asian Olympic Qualification Championship. The 23-year-old sailed superbly in the event to finish her races nine and ten in first and second positions to make her way to the Tokyo Games.
The Chennai-born Kumanan stated today in an interview as to how good it felt to realize her dream of making it to the Games. Kumanan is currently in Spain where she is training under Tamas Eszes and in a few months’ time, she will be one to watch out for as a potential medal contender in the Olympics.
Nethra Kumanan speaks on Olympic qualification
Nethra Kumanan spoke to the media today about her qualification and said, “It feels amazing to achieve Olympic qualification, which has been my dream for many years. It feels incredible that all my hard work has paid off and this is really just the start for me. This event has been extremely good for Indian sailing.”
“Apart from me, there are three others who have qualified as well. I’m so excited to go to Tokyo, have fun, and do the absolute best that I can. It’s a huge step for me and I can’t wait to represent India at the biggest stage of them all,” she added.
Her coach Eszes also spoke at the interaction and said, “Nethra is at the beginning of her journey. Going to Tokyo is only our first start. The next Olympics is only three years away, so we have already started our campaign for the 2024 Games. Qualifying for Tokyo is a big step for Nethra.”
All eyes will be on how well Nethra Kumanan performs come the Tokyo Games.
