Ben Simmons and Zach LaVine will be looking for a fresh start on the Sacramento Kings in the upcoming season after their struggles over the past year. With several NBA teams hosting their Media Day ahead of the new season, both players were present at the Kings’ training facility on Monday.
Simmons is coming off a yearlong layoff after going unsigned for the entire previous season. Meanwhile, LaVine saw his 2025-26 campaign cut short due to a tendon injury in his right hand and was restricted to just 39 appearances.
Struggling through a difficult year, the Kings ended up among the worst performers last season. They finished in the 14th spot in the Western Conference standings as their top players suffered season-ending injuries early in the campaign.
During the livestream of the Kings’ NBA Media Day, an awkward moment occurred when the room’s microphones picked up two female reporters talking about Simmons and LaVine.
That’s what comes with Ben Simmons. Cringe, cringe, he’s lucky he’s fine. He’s a good-looking dude. I didn’t notice. His skin is so smooth. I was like, ‘No tattoos?’ Zach is cute, but his personality annoys me. It just seems like he’s a h* of a p**. He’s beautiful. I think I’d put Ben above Zach. He’s very smooth. The skincare routine.

The livestream stopped after someone in the room realized the mics were picking up unintended conversations. The reporters joked about creating a ranking based on the Kings’ roster’s attractiveness.
One of them placed Simmons over Zach LaVine, as she believes he has a really good skincare routine and looks considerably younger. Meanwhile, another reporter praised LaVine’s looks but criticized his personality. The reporters’ identities have not been revealed, and they could face consequences for their unprofessional behavior.
Fans react to reporters caught on mic debating looks of Ben Simmons and Zach LaVine
The reporters’ comments are a very bad look for them. Speaking about their attractiveness and dismissing their abilities as players and their personalities comes off as highly unprofessional for sports reporters.
After the remarks went viral, fans were caught buzzing across social media.
imagine a male reporter talking like this about a female athlete? its ok to sexualize men but when men do it we are pervs, we make women uncomfortable, we make them feel like they have no value! blah. all that is the same for men then. fire these pigs and ruin them forever

Ok. Time for them to get fired just like a man would and has.

Well, one thing we all know is absolutely nothing will be said or done about any of this.

I’m tired of males being sexuaulized in sports is so disgusting and gross they are victims

Yet another of many double standards that only women benefit because if it were the other way and they were talking like these women they would be fired.

Several fans demanded that the reporters get fired for their remarks and called out the double standards as a male reporter would have been fired immediately. The original stream was reportedly deleted and replaced with another livestream, which was also subsequently deleted.
Ben Simmons on his goals for the 2026-27 season
The past few years have not been easy for Ben Simmons. He has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism for his commitment and lack of development in the game. After no team signed him as a free agent last year, he even thought about retirement for a while and took up Pro Fishing as he stayed away from all the criticism.

However, Simmons seems rejuvenated after his return to the NBA. When asked about his objectives for the new season, he said,
To dominate. Every time I step on the floor to dominate.

With Russell Westbrook announcing his retirement in the summer, the Kings decided to sign Simmons in free agency. After a promising start to his NBA career, the Australian international faltered in the years following. But Simmons appears to be focused and has put his troubles behind him before the 2026-27 campaign gets underway next month.
