Fermin Lopez is having himself quite the season. After being brought into the fray by former FC Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, the Spaniard has done extremely well to announce himself to the scene. Be it for club and country, Lopez has been nothing short of amazing. The 21-year-old’s most recent display of brilliance came for Spain as they beat Morocco in the semi-final of Paris Olympics 2024.

Spain were up against a strong Moroccan contingent in the semi-final as fans expected fireworks at the Orange Velodrome. As expected, either side went guns blazing into the match, as the men in red managed to go ahead.

The referee pointed to the spot after a brief consultation with VAR following an incident inside the penalty area. The second half was all Spain as Lopez got to his usual tricks. The forward fired in the equalizer in the 65th minute, after picking up the ball at the edge of the box.

He then proceeded to set up his teammate for the winner, when a smart bit of play put Juanlu Sanchez on a 1v1 with the keeper. After an impressive Olympic campaign, Morocco will compete for bronze against Egypt.

If the Euros were headlined by Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, the Olympic games belong to Fermin Lopez. FC Barcelona’s tricky midfielder turned up when it mattered the most for his side as Spain continue their dominance in every format this year. A fan commented that Barcelona no longer have to worry about signing both Nico Williams or Dani Olmo.

The 21-year-old’s four goals in five matches were highlighted as the main reason for Spain’s success by many fans. A supporter compared him to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, who is a natural goal scoring midfielder himself. The Blaugrana have struggled to find a goal scoring midfielder in recent years, and fans believe that their search has come to an end.
