The race for gold at 2024 Paris Olympics has started to heat up. The tournament has entered its business end as Spain, France, Egypt and Morocco all booked a spot in the semi-final. Despite not being the favorites to win the competition, La Roja have announced their intentions to the rest of the world with an emphatic win over Japan in the quarter-final.

Spain have FC Barcelona man Fermin Lopez to thank for their success as he grabbed two unbelievable goals on Friday. Aged just 21, the forward has evidently ‘mastered’ the art of ball-striking, made clear by both of his goals on the night. His first came from a belter of a strike from afar, as his left-footed shot whistled past the opposition keeper and into the bottom right corner.

The score remained 1-0 till the 73rd minute, when Lopez finally put the game out of reach for the Japanese. The youngster controlled the ball at the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable volley into the top right corner.

Abel Ruiz put Japan out of their misery with an easy tap-in with just 6 minutes left to play. 3-0 read the final score as Spain march on to secure yet another international trophy.

Fermin Lopez is one of FC Barcelona‘s most prized La Masia talents. The 21-year-old had a significant role in the club’s line-up up until the departure of head coach Xavi Hernandez. Fans are convinced that Hansi Flick will also follow suit after his recent performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Barcelona have a lot to look forward to from the youngster. Lopez’s stunning brace made a fan claim that Barca no longer need to go for Dani Olmo when they have this beast.

Another claimed that ball striking wasn’t even his strongest facet and that he could equally play the final pass as well. A fan added that his partnership with Lamine Yamal and the rest of his teammates at the club will be crucial to the club’s success next season.

As things stand, Spain will take on Morocco in the semi-final for a shot at glory. If they come out on top, La Roja will be 90 minutes away from securing a second international medal in the space of just a month. France face Egypt in the opposing bracket as Les Bleus are shaping up to be the team to beat at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thierry Henry‘s men recently knocked out Argentina in the quarter-final.
