Michael Schumacher‘s son Mick Schumacher has struggled to make a comeback in Formula 1 since being ousted by Haas at the end of 2022. Since then, the German driver has raced in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine. However, the 25-year-old was in talks with a potential switch to Ferrari, albeit not for F1.
Schumacher has failed to land a seat for the 2025 season despite several rookies joining the grid next year. Nevertheless, the German is well respected in WEC due to his past connections to Formula 1. Subsequently, Ferrari’s Hypercar program was reportedly willing to have the 25-year-old replace IndyCar-bound Robert Shwartzman.
Maranello expected that Mick Schumacher would help bring more sponsors to its endurance campaign. Unfortunately, talks between the two parties fell through and the German will stick with Alpine for the following season.
Ferrari could’ve given an F1 role to Mick Schumacher
It is unclear whether the Hypercar seat could’ve presented an opportunity for Mick Schumacher to become a reserve driver for Scuderia Ferrari. The German was part of the Ferrari driver academy and only parted ways after the 2022 season.
One must note that Ferrari’s WEC drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Robert Shwartzman did get reserve driver roles with the Scuderia’s F1 project. As such, this could’ve opened the door for Schumacher as well. However, the 25-year-old is already a reserve driver for Mercedes.
Mick Schumacher’s persistent failure to get a seat in Formula 1 indicates that no team wants to take a bet on the 25-year-old. The German driver must now give his full focus to the World Endurance Championship to make his mark with Alpine.
