Injuries robbed Caitlin Clark of the chance to impact her Indian Fever the way she was preparing during the offseason. The point guard had developed her body and skills to perform better than last season.
She has missed 16 games so far and could miss at least the next two road games as the team’s medical staff takes it easy on her recovery. They would rather have the 23-year-old come back after her groin injury fully heals than risk aggravating it.
The Fever have 15 games remaining on their regular season schedule. Their current 5-game winning streak has some sections of fans believing that the team is playing better without Caitlin Clark. When head coach Stephanie White appeared on ESPN’s NBA Today, she was asked about the superstar point guard’s return. Knowing how the narratives are being thrown around on social media, she said:
Because she has so much gravity on the offensive end, we run things differently when she’s on the floor. Now we go smaller, we have a little more versatility, I would say, on the defensive end of the floor. When we re-implement and get Caitlin back onto the floor, I think we are going to be that much more dangerous.
Stephanie White said
This statement sounded like a proclamation from the person with the best seat in the house. White is reiterating that once Caitlin Clark is back, the Fever is going to step their game up another level.
"I take a lot of pride in basketball in the state of Indiana. I take a lot of pride in this franchise."

This could also be a warning to the rest of the league, knowing that the point guard’s critics have been running their narratives of how the Fever are winning games without her.
Fever HC points out how Caitlin Clark will make team better
Those narratives have brought up statistics displaying how the Indiana Fever are playing better without Caitlin Clark. But since head coach Stephanie White has been molding this roster, she knows how the 23-year-old impacts her teammates.
She demands so much gravity on the defensive end of the floor. She makes the right reads and makes the right plays for our group… Everybody else will be able to get more high percentage looks bc of what she demands. She brings her own defensive versatility because of her length.
Stephanie White said
White added that the Fever can stretch the floor more than they do now. That strategy works well for her teammates, as most of them like to run and gun. Therefore, once she is back, her ability to set them up will propel the team to another level.

Right now, the Fever perform well when Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston command the attention of opposing defenses. That opens up scoring opportunities for others.
When Clark comes back, she will be the focus of other teams, leaving both Mitchell and Boston to join in the fun. If the star guard can return fully healthy, this team might play at a faster pace than it currently does.
Caitlin Clark could return in time to reignite rivalry with Angel Reese
Currently, there is no timetable for Caitlin Clark’s return. She has been doing some running and light shooting, but is not cleared for practice. The Indiana Fever return home on August 8th after their road trip ends.

If the medical staff gives her the all clear, then the 23-year-old can suit up to resume her ‘unofficial rivalry’ with Angel Reese when the Chicago Sky roll into town on August 9th. It is still a far-fetched situation considering there is not enough time to get some practice reps in, but it could still happen.
Reese is also out with a back injury and could return to the court by then. The league has been robbed of its battles as Clark could not play in two of them. WNBA fans would hope they can see the duo go at it before the regular season ends.
