Fever HC compares Caitlin Clark’s decision-making to Stephen Curry

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark has not consistently brought out her long-range logo threes in the WNBA since leaving college.

When Caitlin Clark first broke into the WNBA, many skeptics believed she would struggle to bring her long-range scoring to the professional league. One season later, fans are convinced that even though she struggled initially, she did bring some of that out to help the Indiana Fever.

In the initial part of her rookie season, there were clear signs of struggles as she could not cope with either the physicality of her opponents or the new offensive schemes the Fever employed. She was trying too hard, and her wildly inconsistent scoring did not help matters.

Then, after the Olympic break, she took her game up one notch. She started to make decisions on her own and led the Fever to a playoff berth for the first time in eight seasons. But even then, those logo threes were not a consistent part of her game.

Now, the Fever has a roster consisting of championship-winning veterans and a new head coach, Stephanie White. Some believe White will help unlock an MVP-caliber season from Caitlin Clark. In her 2025 preseason debut, the highlight was a 38-foot logo shot.

It was ironic that she broke that out in the same Carver-Hawkeye Arena she spent years dominating. But knowing how it could hinder the Fever, a reporter asked White if she is going to rein in Clark’s long threes.

I’ve been watching her for 5 years. That’s what who she is, it’s what she does. Nobody tells Steph Curry not to take good shots, right?

Stephanie White said

Stephanie White did clarify that there is a time and place for those logo threes. In this instance, she made it clear that one cannot dictate if a good player should avoid their signature shot. It could be that White is empowering Clark to make the right decisions, similar to how Stephen Curry does for his team.

Caitlin Clark has a heartwarming exchange with Brazilian coach

This was Caitlin Clark‘s first preseason game of this WNBA season. In the exhibition showdown against the Brazilian National Women’s team, Clark was waiting for the officials to give the go-ahead. She took the opportunity to greet Brazilian coach Leo Figueiro. After shaking hands, he said:

You’re an amazing player, congratulations. You’ve changed the history in basketball.

Leo Figueiro said

To this, the Indiana Fever superstar answered back:

I appreciate it, thanks for coming here.

Caitlin Clark said

The 23-year-old then proceeded to ask Figueiro if this was the largest crowd the Brazilians had played in front of. He agreed, as 15,000 Iowa fans were screaming their guts out watching their fellow native go about her business.

The Brazilians had just played against her rival Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky the day before. That explained why they did not have their entire squad ready and embarrassingly lost the game 44-108, a deficit of 64 points.

Fever’s final preseason against Atlanta Dream will be tougher than the first two

Caitlin Clark did not play in the first Indiana Fever preseason game against the Washington Mystics yesterday. That game went into overtime as the new Fever roster struggled to stay composed against a Mystics team that had players who were already in sync with each other.

Sophie Cunningham‘s scoring and the young Mystics’ indecisions helped the Fever win the game. Now, along with this exhibition win, the Fever are 2-0 in the preseason. However, their toughest test is yet to come.

Clark and her teammates will take on the Atlanta Dream in their final preseason game on May 10th. The Dream also made the playoffs last season, and just like the Fever, were bundled out of the first round. Their team became a lot stronger over the offseason after adding Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones.

That matchup will be against a seasoned team with the addition of both those All-Stars. Therefore, it will be the toughest battle this new iteration of the Fever will face. This game should give them an idea of how much they will need to improve before their season debut against Reese and the Sky on May 18th.
