Daniel Ricciardo made his comeback in F1 as he started two Grands Prix with Alpha Tauri at the halfway point of the season and looked set to have a dreamy year in Formula 1. The hopes of a smooth sailing season were disrupted as the Australian suffered a major wrist injury in FP2 at Zandvoort.

Ricciardo was projected to miss the Dutch GP and this weekend’s Italian GP with fans hoping to see the 8-time Grand Prix winner line-up on the grid for the Singapore GP. Helmut Marko, the ‘man at the helm’ at Red Bull, has conveyed bad news for the hopeful. Marko explained“In the very best case, the first race which he will be back is Singapore, however, this is physically one of the most extreme circuits. “[He] is unlikely [to return there] and the same is actually true of Suzuka.”

So as it lies, even in the very best case scenario of Ricciardo’s wrist healing up by the Singapore GP weekend, the sheer physicality of the racetrack will dismiss his return. Marko has said Suzuka will hold the same problem for the Australian. Danny Ric’s imminent returns seems likely to come at the Qatar GP which is on the 8th of October.

The 21-year old Liam Lawson hails for New Zealand. The youngster had an unexpected Debut at the Dutch GP as Daniel Ricciardo was forced out following his injury. Lawson is racing this season in the Japanese Super Formula series while also serving as the reserve driver for Red Bull sister team AlphaTauri. He stepped in for his first taste of a competitive Grand Prix weekend in Formula 1.

The Kiwi reveals how Ricciardo had nothing but supportive words for the young driver. Ricciardo apparently advised Lawson to make the most out of this opportunity. Lawson says, “Daniel being the amazing guy that he is, he was super supportive. Basically, before he left to go have surgery, he was still on the track and he was very supportive. He told me to make the most it and if I needed any help then to ask him. He was very, very good about it.”

Following Marko’s remarks about Ricciardo missing out on the next few Grands Prix, The young kiwi stands a great chance to show his mettle in F1. The Italian GP comes with high expectations as Lawson faces his first full Grand Prix weekend.
