In an absolutely crazy move, FIFA’s official Instagram handle swept India into an absolute frenzy as they posted a picture of Cristiano Ronaldo with the caption “Thala for a reason”. To throw in a bit of context, this line has become famous in the Indian cricket circuit while referring to MS Dhoni whose jersey number is 7 while the word ‘Thala’ means elder brother.
As Portugal gears up to take on Czechia tonight, the world is obviously buzzing around Cristiano Ronaldo and FIFA nailed their post for the Indian audience by using a caption which the Indian fans can connect with even with their eyes closed.
The line “Thala for a reason” started doing rounds on social media a couple of years back. And then the trend started picking up anything that relates to the number seven and eventually link it up with Dhoni. Ideally, the line itself generated a meme-storm across all the social media websites.
The ongoing year saw various renowned media houses resorting to this line, while paying their ultimate respect to Dhoni while also sending the fans into a delirious frenzy. Ronaldo has also been a massive inspiration for many Indian fans irrespective of the discipline of sport they play. His sheer fitness laced with his flexibility and agility at a ripe age of 39 years has been something to admire.
A glance at the preceding rodeos of MS Dhoni and Cristiano Ronaldo
CR7 finished Euro 2020 as the top goal-scorer of the tournament with five goals while Portugal didn’t live up to their expectations. They finished third in the group stage and in the round of 16 they were tamed by Belgium and crashed out of the fray.
For MS Dhoni, CSK was well in contention to make the cut for the play-offs of IPL 2024 until RCB garnered sudden pace as they went headlong into a six-match unbeaten streak and with a superior NRR, managed to upstage CSK in the race for the final four.
Ronaldo would be hopeful of a victorious start to the Euro 2024 campaign as they will face some stern challenges in the group stages in the form of Turkey and Georgia alongside their opposition.
