Fights between fans are common in a highly competitive league like the NFL, but this time the players couldn’t hold back, leading to an intense brawl during the Chicago Bears vs. Carolina Panthers game on Sunday at Soldier Field.
It happened in the fourth quarter when the Bears’ running back Roschon Johnson scored a one-yard touchdown and brought the team into the 36-10 lead against the Panthers. By that time, it was foreseeable that the victory was of Windy City, and as Johnson began celebrating, Carolina’s cornerback Jaycee Horn ignited a fight by pushing Bears offensive lineman Bill Murray.
Within a few seconds, players from both teams quickly became embroiled in a skirmish, shoving one another and exchanging heated words. Some instances showed Chicago offensive lineman Matt Pryor throwing punches at the opposing team’s players. He also punched Horn before pushing Carolina linebacker DJ Johnson on the ground.
As the players engaged in the brawl, the NFL officials showed multiple flags while blowing whistles. Both Pryor and Horn were imposed with unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and removed from the field.
When the game resumed, the Bears attempted a two-point conversion but failed to execute it and finished Week 5’s game with a 36-10 victory.
Dave Canales urges Panthers to control emotions following on-field brawl
The Bears have now improved to a 3-2 standing, while the Panthers seem to be having another breakdown with a 1-4 record. The condition of the Panthers is deteriorating with each passing week, as the arrival of new head coach Dave Canales and benching of quarterback Bryce Young didn’t make any difference.
The Panthers’ head coach was visibly upset with how events unfolded on the field, especially the penalty imposed on Horn. The defense struggled, allowing the Bears’ offense to rack up 300 passing yards. Cornerback Horn was frustrated by wide receiver DJ Moore, who caught five passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns, many of which came with Horn in coverage throughout much of the game.
