Tension flared between the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Boston College players in the Pinstripe Bowl after a late hit on freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. Officials had to get involved to separate both teams.

With just under four minutes until the final whistle, Nebraska had possession on first and ten in the midfield. Raiola took off with the ball following the snap and slid right on the Pinstripe Bowl logo.

When the former first recruit was hitting the turf, Boston College defensive back Carter Davis rammed into him with his head down. Although there was no lasting damage, Raiola wasn’t happy. He got up and went right into the face of Davis to argue.

The argument switched into an intense shoving competition. It didn’t take long for their teammates to join in even after the officials threw multiple penalty flags. Following a brief pause the referee managed to break up the skirmish.

The officials judged the situation as a late-hit personal foul on Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola from Davis. Agitated Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien protested the decision, but Nebraska automatically received a first down due to a 15-yard penalty.

The 25th-ranked Boston College trailed from the get-go, and by the third quarter, Riola put 20 past them. It took only a couple of minutes in the second quarter for running back Rahmir Johnson to open the scoring with a four-yard rushing touchdown, followed by their second of the day from Kwinten Eves and a 13-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to Emmett Johnson was the icing on the cake.

Even though Boston College reduced the score to just five in the fourth quarter, Davis’ late hit on Raiola allowed the Huskers to burn more time. The game eventually ended 15-20, and Nebraska won the 2025 Pinstripe Bowl, their first bowl game win since 2015.

After the game reporters asked the Raiola to describe Davis’s hit on him.

He [Boston College DB Carter Davis] tried to take me out, which is why I came up and kind of reacted. But I guess it was just kind of the fire in me. The game was on the line, [and] I’m going to lay it on the line for my team. I got up [and] I knew I wasn’t going to do anything but my linemen came in and kind of cleaned up for me.
