UFC 325 was stacked and delivered an unforgettable night for Australian fans as it had elite performances throughout the card. Among the standout bouts on the main card, Mauricio Ruffy faced Rafael Fiziev, immediately setting a fast pace and asserting confidence inside the Octagon. Initially, Ruffy controlled distance with sharp footwork and precise counters, disrupting Fiziev’s rhythm in the early exchanges.

His timing improved as the fight progressed, landing clean body shots and leg kicks that slowed Fiziev noticeably over the minutes. In the fourth minute of the second round, Ruffy landed a clean right that dropped the Azerbaijan fighter as Ruffy followed up. After that, referee Dan Movahedi had no other option but to step in and stop the fight, giving the Brazilian a TKO victory.

As this was going on, Mauricio Ruffy’s teammates from The Fighting Nerds team were supporting him, cheering loudly for their teammate. Top welterweight Carlos Prates was present near the Octagon side and was seen shouting at the top of his lungs. Caio Borralho was with Nina Drama and went viral for his wild celebration after Ruffy finished Fiziev.

Last year, after his loss to Benoit Saint-Denis, Ruffy stepped away from the Fighting Nerds’ main training camp setup. The decision sparked discussion, especially as several Fighting Nerds members struggled in subsequent bouts across different weight divisions. Despite setbacks, the team has begun rebounding, with fighters adjusting strategies and reclaiming momentum in recent competitive performances.

Ruffy, meanwhile, focused on individual growth, refining skills, and perspective outside the core structure of the camp during that period. Looking ahead, a return to the Fighting Nerds’ main camp could align Ruffy with a revitalized group chasing success again. The performance cemented the striking sensation as a rising lightweight threat and also earned him the ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.

Following the victory, Mauricio Ruffy thanked Jesus for saving him, granting him strength, and guiding his emotional comeback. Ruffy also praised the energetic crowd, acknowledging Australian fans whose loud reactions fueled him and made the moment even more special. The fighter then discussed staying active and chasing momentum, aiming to secure a spot at the highly anticipated White House event.

Did Mauricio Ruffy help Alexander Volkanovski to win at UFC 325?

Apart from Mauricio Ruffy, Alexander Volkanovski faced Diego Lopes in the UFC 325 main event, headlining a high-stakes championship rematch. The bout served as a title rematch following their previous showdown last year, where Volkanovski’s composure and tactical discipline earned a unanimous decision victory.

Carrying identical momentum into the second encounter at UFC 325, Volkanovski again dictated tempo and managed distance intelligently. With that, the Australian MMA legend secured another clear decision win over the younger opponent.

During the closing stages of camp, Volkanovski trained alongside Mauricio Ruffy, sharpening movement and offensive rhythm. In a recent interview, Lopes acknowledged Ruffy’s influence, suggesting his presence elevated Volkanovski’s preparations to beat Lopes.

Volk is a legend, it’s very tough to fight against him. He’s got Ruffy now and he’s helping him with how to read people, so he’s probably helping Volk to win.

After his fight, Ruffy also credited his training with the Australian veteran, which helped him to make a comeback. Before UFC 325, many shared concerns regarding Lopes getting another opportunity rather than other top contenders. Fighters like Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy have consistently called for title fights because of their undefeated careers.

Following the win, Volk said he feels a strong responsibility as a champion. He explained that rankings exist for a reason and should be respected. Volkanovski added that if he keeps allowing others to bypass contenders waiting their turn, then he is not truly fulfilling his duty as champion. As such, the undisputed 145-pound champ will face either Evloev or Murphy next.
