“I am very happy to be on the ice”: Kamila Valieva’s competitive return after controversial 2022 Winter Olympics

Kamila Valieva will be competing for the first time once again after her controversial appearance at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics this year. Valieva was the favourite to win gold coming into the Olympics. However a series of disastrous faults meant that she would only finish fourth on the table.
The 15-year-old was found to have performed her routine just days after it was discovered that the Russian has tested for trimetazidine at the Russian National Championships in December. The gold medal that she won in the team event at the Olympics also remains in jeopardy, as the doping case will experience delays till 2023.
Kamila Valieva Banned from World Figure Skating Championships; performed at another series instead

Valieva, along with all other Russians, was banned from performing at the 2022 World Figure Skating Championships due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Instead, she took part in the Channel One Cup organised in Russia, which coincided with the dates of the aforementioned event.
The youngster came second in the free skate program with a score of 173.88, ahead of the Olympic champion Anna Shcherbakova who finished with 176.12. “I am very happy to be on the ice. I am happy that the Channel One Cup has taken place. Spectators give you energy when you are tired. You keep going thanks to them.” Valieva said according to Eurosport.com.
