“Its her Junior World Debut”: Isabeau Levito takes the crown at the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships

15-year-old Isabeau Levito claimed the women’s title at the 2022 World Junior Figure Skating Championships recently held in Estonia on 17th April.

A total of 43 skaters aged between 13 to under 19 years old took part in the women’s competition with only 24 qualifying for the free skate event on Sunday. USA’s Levito lead after the short program at the World Championships, with a score of 72.50. She held a narrow 3 point lead over her opponent Shin Jia.

The pressure was on the youngster who led the field after the short program. She was the last skater onto the stage in the free skate, and with everyone before her going clean, she had to do the same. She did, as she ended up scoring 134.05 points in the free program, the second highest score of the evening. It was however enough to clinch the overall title with a score of 206.55 points.

Finishing second was South Korea’s 14-year-old Shin Jia with 206.01 points while American Lindsay Thorngren took the bronze medal with an overall score of 199.42 points. The pairs title was claimed by Georgia’s Karina Safina and Luka Berulava who finished first ahead of Australia’s Anastasia Golubeva and Hektor Giotopoulos Moore, while Canada’s Brooke McIntosh and Benjamin Mimar took third.
