Fikayo Tomori is close to leaving Chelsea on loan with AC Milan interested in the defender
Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori is looking to move out of the club on a loan move in this January transfer window. The defender was a big part of Lampard’s team during the 2019/20 season.
However he has spent most of his time during this season benched and on the sidelines. It will be better for him to get some regular playing time and return to London.
Frank Lampard speaks about Fikayo Tomori’s future at the club
With the arrival of big names like Thiago Silva it was always going to be difficult for Fikayo Tomori to get a place in the starting line up. Moreover with Kurt Zouma also stepping up the other centre back position is also not available.
Frank Lampard spoke about Fikayo Tomori’s future at the club and he believes that Tomori definitely will be a feature. However at this point of time he can’t be played with the limited experience he has got.
He absolutely has a long-term future, we will see if and when he goes out on loan. The moment I got close with Fikayo is when I took him on loan to Derby. He was player of the year there and one of the best players in the Championship that season. He then came back last year, played 20 plus games for us, and got in the England squad.
“There is a long-term plan for Fikayo in my head about his career here. And if he goes out on loan it will be to enhance his personal development, hopefully help the team he goes to, and come back as a better player.”
Popular transfer window spokesman Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Fikayo Tomori is indeed linked with Italian club AC Milan with a loan move this transfer window.
Fikayo Tomori featured in Chelsea’s win against Morecambe in the FA Cup but that was only for 10 minutes’. Frank Lampard confirmed that he didn’t start the game because a possible move was on the cards.
AC Milan and Rennes are reportedly interested in the defender with another unknown Premier League club also keeping tabs on his progress.
