The 2024 season isn’t going too well for the Seattle Seahawks, who are in second last place within the NFC West division with a 4-4 record. However, as their season proceeded to Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams, quarterback Geno Smith emphasized the urgency for improvement and taking control of his emotions.
With two Pro Bowl selections, Smith certainly ranks above the top quarterbacks in the league; however, he is still striving to enhance his game. Prior to the Sunday Night Game against the Rams, the Seahawks quarterback admitted to the media that he was a sore loser and that it had been tough for him because of the team’s underwhelming performance this season.
While acknowledging his tendency to let his emotions out whether good or bad, the star quarterback admitted that he needs to control his emotions and be careful of how he portrays himself or his team in front of everyone. In his own words, he needs to learn to keep “a better poker face.”

Though the two-time Pro Bowler admitted to continuing to be himself, he doesn’t want his emotions to become a problem for his team. That’s why he is focusing on improving it and continuing to get the team fired up before any match.
Geno Smith learns hard lesson on managing emotions after taunting penalty
While it’s generally preferable for a quarterback to display passion, it can sometimes lead to costly penalties for the team, as it did for the Seahawks during the game against the Buffalo Bills. The 34-year-old signal-caller was imposed with a 15-yard penalty for taunting after throwing the ball at the Bills’ defender Dawuane Smoot in the third quarter.
“Geno has to manage that. That’s something you never want to take away, is his competitive spirit,” said Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb on Smith’s taunting penalty, in the post-game press conference.
Grubb appreciated Smith for his efforts to put together a strong offensive play, saying that’s why it’s understandable for him to get frustrated when things go sideways. However, as much as his team realizes the need for the quarterback to stay poised, he understands it well that’s why he wants to stay competitive but in a good way.
