WWE has been teasing cracks in The Judgment Day for nearly a year. Damian Priest and Finn Balor have had their differences since the Latino superstar won the Money in the Bank briefcase. Things finally reached a boiling point at SummerSlam when the Irishman helped Gunther beat the Archer of Infamy and win the World Heavyweight Championship.

On the morning after the show, Finn Balor took to X and revealed that he had woken up in a good mood. The Irishman had finally put an end to The Judgment Day as fans knew it and is likely headed in a new direction. He seems destined to have a feud with Priest over the next few months and a potential singles run afterwards.

WWE had been dropping hints about this betrayal throughout the show. In a backstage segment that immediately followed Dominik Mysterio turning on Rhea Ripley and kissing Liv Morgan, Priest was furious and looking for the Latino Superstar. In a fit of rage, he grabbed Balor by the collar and nearly put his hands on him. Further, he asked the 43-year-old if he had any idea about such a betrayal going down, which he denied.

The two had seemingly made up in a backstage segment prior to the World Heavyweight Championship match. Damian Priest apologized to the first Universal Champion, who said that he would be at ringside to help the champion in his match if he so wished. However, Balor had other intentions in mind. Balor came down at ringside to seemingly support his stablemate and cheer him on.

The cheering must have worked because Priest made an incredible comeback and landed the South of Heaven Chokeslam. It seemed all over for the Austrian until the Irishman placed his foot on the rope to break the pinfall. The champion was flabbergasted by his friend’s betrayal, and this was all the space that Gunther needed to come back into the match and win the World Heavyweight Championship.

JD McDonagh reacts to Finn Balor betraying Damian Priest, clarifies whose side he is on

As The Judgment Day imploded at SummerSlam, fans speculated whose side each member of the faction would take. JD McDonagh didn’t take too long to clarify which side of the fence he was on. The day after the show, the 34-year-old posted a carousel on Instagram of him ripping off a Judgment Day t-shirt. He captioned the post, saying that he was never fond of that shirt in the first place.

JD McDonagh has been a long-time friend of Balor, and it is no secret that he sided with his fellow Irishman. They are the current World Tag Team Champions on Raw and will continue their reign together. Priest was never a fan of him hanging around the group, and it was the Grand Slam champion who insisted on him being there.
