Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks were hoping this would be the season they finally get to bring the NBA title to the city. The mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden, needed a championship to continue calling itself that, especially since it has been more than five decades since the last one.

Against the Indiana Pacers, the Knicks struggled to maintain their focus and could not execute their game plan for the entirety of the first two games at home. They brought their focus back to Game 3 and won easily on the road.

The team lost the fourth game, but still had hope of bouncing back and becoming part of the 5% of teams that have won a playoff series after going down 3-1. That led to a stellar Game 5 game again at home, and suddenly, Knicks fans had hope that their team had found its momentum.

The Pacers, though, trounced the team from the Big Apple, crushing the dreams of their legions of fans of an NBA title. Considering how everyone looks for something else to blame, it first started with an attack on Karl-Anthony Towns. Now, former ESPN insider Zach Lowe has found out another problem the Knicks faced.

Apparently, the night before Game 6 in Indiana, the fire alarm went off at the Knicks’ hotel at about 1 in the morning. There is some mystery over how that happened. I checked with a couple of agents who checked with their players, who confirmed.

The former ESPN insider understands that the situation took place, but does not believe that it would impact the flow of the New York Knicks. Current generation players usually stay up that long, therefore, it is not as if it could have affected them.

Knicks expected to have aggressive offseason

The New York Knicks did everything they could to field a strong team to try and win an NBA title. Now that they fell short of that goal, Shams Charania thinks they will go into the offseason with a proper plan of action in place.

The Knicks have internal meetings this week to really evaluate everything from their coaches to their players… I do expect the Knicks to be aggressive. I’m told (Tom Thibodeau) has the support not only of Jalen Brunson, but also the front office.

The last part was almost a confirmation that Tom Thibodeau will continue as the head coach. His decisions might have angered some, but the franchise does not have an option. If they fire him, they do not have a legitimate replacement who can bring in a championship.

Instead, Thibodeau will need to work with the front office to construct a roster with which he can take the next step. The team needs bench players whom the head coach trusts, and that means there is a chance his opinion will be considered when going after players.

Knicks need a deep rotation to take on team-first rosters

The New York Knicks spent a lot of draft capital to bring in players who they believed were good enough to win the NBA title. Battles against the Indiana Pacers gave a different viewpoint when their team-first roster trumped the superstar-laden Knicks.

The concept of superstar-oriented teams is dwindling after both the Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, two team-first focused franchises, have reached the NBA Finals. The Knicks, though, cannot just send away players who are crucial to their attack.

They can look at complementary players who can contribute and give Tom Thibodeau legitimate options for fielding them in the playoffs. Only then can his starters avoid both injury and fatigue, and propel them to the Finals.
