The Olympic Opening Ceremony is the most anticipated event before the biggest event in all sports kicks off. This year, the opening ceremony turned people’s smiles into a sheer look of disgust and anger. The drag queen-themed parody of “The Last Supper”, the iconic and religiously revered painting by Leonardo Da Vinci of Jesus Christ and his apostles, irked fans worldwide.
It was not well-accepted by most Americans as it was deemed outright offensive and a parody that was aimed at hurting the religious sentiments of devout Christians. The reaction compelled the Organizing Committee of the Paris 2024 Olympics to apologize to Catholics and other Christian groups.
Despite knowing the dissatisfaction of the masses after watching the ceremony, First Lady Jill Biden opted to praise the opening ceremony and could not stop herself from calling it one of the best that she has ever witnessed.
At a recent public event, the First Lady shared her thoughts on the ceremony. It was completely contrary to the sentiments of many Americans.
It was spectacular, the rain did not dampen our spirits, and honestly, every step of the way I was thinking to myself, 'Oh my God, Oh my God, how are we going to top this?' So okay, Paris has the Eiffel Tower but we have Hollywood, and right at the magic of Hollywood that makes all dreams come true, so I think we're going to be okay.Jill Biden said
The latter part of her response was directed toward America hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Jill Biden loved the opening ceremony this year and the only thought running through her head was: how will the USA improve upon this and come up with an opening ceremony that will be unforgettable for ages to come?
Jill Biden received a lot of criticism from fans online over her praise of the 2024 Olympic opening ceremony
Her statement comes at a time when the nation is headed to the polls. While President Joe Biden has stepped out of the race, the ideals expressed by him and his wife will no doubt have an impact on the chances of the Democratic Party.
To praise a ceremony that hurt the sentiments of millions and call it ‘spectacular’ was not a good look for her.
The parody that was performed against the backdrop of the River Seine was intended to interpret Dionysus and raise awareness “of the absurdity of violence between human beings,” as per the organizers. But shortly after the skit attracted more outrage than praise, the committee was quick to clarify they never intended to hurt people’s sentiments.
Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. (The opening ceremony) tried to celebrate community tolerance. We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offence we are really sorry.spokesperson Anne Descamps said at a press conference.

Jenna Ellis, the former 2020 campaign attorney to Donald Trump, criticized the opening ceremony for involving a child and offending the religious sentiments of people.
In this scene from the Olympic opening ceremony, the famous painting of The Last Supper is recreated, but Jesus is replaced with an obese woman, while queer and trans figures (including a child!) depict her apostles.Jenna Ellis said
She further described the ceremony as one containing “overt pagan and satanic symbolism.” In order for America to top this performance at the 2028 Summer Games, all the nation needs to do is to not offend the religious sentiments of viewers, which should not be that hard of a thing to do.
