With the 2022 season bringing in a range of whole new regulations, there are many teams on the current grid who have completely shifted their focus onto the next season. Even Ferrari is one such team, but that being said it hasn’t ignored the present one. However former Renault Boss, Flavio Briatore differs from this thought and thinks Ferrari has jeopardized their 2021 season already.
After a decent outing in Bahrain for both the Ferrari drivers, their home race at Imola, Leclerc came home with P4 and Sainz, P5. They two hope to improve on their form and bring better results in the upcoming race in Portugal.
What did Flavio Briatore say about Ferrari?
On a radio program, La Politica nel Pallone, as quoted by Speedweek.com, Briatore said, “The season has barely started and they are already talking about 2022. They are jeopardizing third place in the World Cup, which they are for themselves set the season goal, which is difficult enough – even with two great racing drivers like Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
“The car is undoubtedly more competitive than in 2020. But what Ferrari is really worth will only be seen in 2022, when Formula 1 starts with new regulations. Then it has to be seen whether a third or fourth place in the World Championship is perhaps the maximum for Ferrari,” he concluded. (Translated from German via Google)
Having said that, with the next race is in Portugal, the Italian team aim for a win or a podium finish in the upcoming weekend. Leclerc and Sainz will hope to extract the maximum out of the car and bring home a better result.
