Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is once again at the center of another controversy. Throughout the year, there have been several contentious issues surrounding the boxing legend. This time, an employer-employee dispute has caused a stir in Floyd Mayweather’s life, as workers at his boxing gym in Los Angeles are currently protesting.
According to the Daily Mail, the boxing icon’s company, known as ‘The Money Team,’ was responsible for distributing salaries. As a result of unpaid wages, workers at the facility began protesting outside on Highland Avenue, displaying signs and using a microphone to voice their concerns. The employees also claimed that the facility is at risk of shutting down, hindering their ability to manage their own expenses.
One sign at the protest said, “modern-day slavery” while the other read “The $ Team has no $,” accusing Mayweather’s ‘TMT’ of bankruptcy. The dissatisfied fitness employees are also alleging that the Mayweather Boxing and Fitness organization has breached the California Labor Code. Notably, California Labor Code 210 imposes penalties on employers who do not pay their workers promptly.
If employers do not comply within 30 days, the legislation permits employees to receive a full day’s wages at their regular rate for each day they remained unpaid, and the right to pursue legal action against the employer. This is not the first time controversies regarding low wages associated with Mayweather have emerged. Recently, some workers at his strip club also sought legal action against the boxing legend.
